Don't buy it
Published on March 15, 2005 By KarmaGirl In Cooking

On February 12th, 2005 (just over a month ago) I purchased a Krups Pannini Sandwich Grill #FDE3 at Williams and Sonoma in Ann Arbor.  Not sure why I am giving you all those details, but for some reason it seems important.

Anyway, to make a long story short: It worked well, then it quit.  No reason, just quit working...I guess making a sandwich causes it to quit...who knew?  The manual has the great troubleshooting advise of: "Check that the appliance is plugged in correctly."

So, I called the number in their manual which reads:

(800)526-5377
24-hours a day, 7 days a week

By that, they actually mean that their phone system is active during that time, but a human is only there from 8am to 6:30pm Mon-Thu and 8am to 5:30pm on Friday (unless you get to the other voice prompt which says 8-7 and 8-6 respectively).  Time zone?  Who knows......

So, as any respectable geek would do, I turned to the web.  I didn't find any help, but I found a lot of people complaining about Krups service, such as on this page: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/krups.html

Most of the complaints are about coffee makers, but all the complaints are about their customer service (well, lack there of).

So, unless you have a husband like mine who can rip your appliances apart and replace the thermal fuse (however in hell you actually figure that out and test it) I would suggest not buying it.

you've made me very hungry for a Pannini!

I love Panninis (which is why I bought the machine).  Of course, that is also a reason that this makes me so angry!  LOL

Mmmmmmm....Pannini.......

I love paninis too! So, here is a shameless plug to my blog. Last year I put up a recipe for focaccia bread that I made on T.V. it makes the yummiest paninis. Link
At the cafe I work at the owner didn't want to spring for the commercial panini machine so she bought a big Hamilton beach grilling machine. It works pretty good.
