How to save money
Published on February 20, 2004 By KarmaGirl In Photography

So, you have an S2 camera (or many of the Nikon camera bodies like the N80)
and you wonder why some lenses cost so much, others don't, and which one you
should use.

Well, There are basically two different types of Nikon lenses: D and G

What is the main difference?  There is an aperture ring on the D but not
on the G.  On the G lenses, the camera body sets the aperture, which won't
work on cameras that don't have that feature.

The G lenses are the same quality, however, yet they are considerably less
expensive than the D lenses.

On the S2 and N80 bodies, if you use a D lens, you have to set the aperture
to 22 and lock it, anyway, for the camera to work.  So, the aperture ring
is useless.

So, to save money, buy the G lenses.  They are cheaper, work just great,
and have the Nikon quality that you crave.

What you say is true but should warn people that neither g nor d lenses guarentee quality.

neither g nor d lenses guarentee quality.

Nothing does.  You need to research every lens you buy before you buy it.  Some Nikon lenses are absolute junk and some "generic" lenses are great.  You also have to buy a lens for it's particular use (outside shots versus studio versus action, etc.)
