A silly place filled with caffeine induced ramblings of this person named KarmaGirl....or something.
a positive view
Published on March 4, 2004 By KarmaGirl In Politics

I read so many blogs that complain left and right about the USA.  If you
took them to heart, you would think that this is the most evil place on
Earth.  After talking with somebody I know out of the country, it is
obvious that the press portrays the US the same way.  This person was under
the assumption that nobody had healthcare and you would go broke in the US if
you got sick.

My family has been in the US a *long* time.  Like, "Mayflower" long
time.  I grew up in a very small town with barely any opportunities.
However, living in this great country, I knew that I could bend my life
into anything that I wanted to.

My Mom was a stay at home Mom, and we lived on a low-medium
income.  We had a comfortable home that was within our means.  Never
any flashy cars, vacations, and stuff like that, but we lived comfortably.

Through the years, I moved out of that small town because I knew that the job
market was not in what I wanted to do.  I moved to a bigger city.  I
started working and supporting myself a little over 9 years ago.  Is
started out making $9.00.  Then, a job opportunity came available at a
start up company.  Though is was a risk for me, I took the job because I
believed in the vision of the company.  I took a pay cut down to $7.00 per
hour.  I got rid of all expenses that I didn't *need*, and then got to work
making sure that the company grew and succeeded.

Over the years, that risk has paid off.  The start up company employs
many people and has millions of customers.  Everyone gets paid a fair wage,
gets health insurance, and the work environment is great. I am also
very happily married, have a great child, and have a comfortable  home and
lifestyle.  I work full time to maintain that life, and it all makes me
happy.

What made that possible?  It's the way America works.  It gives
people with a vision the ability to start a business no matter how small it
is.  If that person works hard enough, that business will thrive.
America has the land, resources, and opportunities that allow you to work for
and obtain the life you want.

And, no, it's not handed to you.  America doesn't mean a "free
ride".  It is here to give you the freedom to work for what you want.
It is here to protect you and give you a fair chance.  *No* country is
perfect.  There is no way to please everyone.  But, in my view,
America is as close to perfect as you can get.

My life is comfortable, and I work in a place that I love and
appreciate.  I know its roots and I never forget its beginnings. I
take the same view with America- learn its roots, don't forget its beginnings,
and try to appreciate the way it currently stands.

BakerStreet -This is interesting reading about liens and such. Link

on Mar 08, 2004
Any Hospital receiving federal funds is now required to negotiate expenses and bill equally to medicare or private insurance,
The portion that you are billed above what your insurance pays is neccesary for tax and accounting purposes ( A/R and deductiblity of bad debt )
Most Hospital A/R depts will tell you thay\t not only are they willing to accept any type of pmt on a debt, they will refinance that debt and carry it forever as long as some form of payment is ongoing in a regular manner.
You even have the right to negotiate the balance.
As to siezures of property for non-payment, that completely untrue.
Specific liens, notes and contracts, expressly showing the encumbrance of guarantee by property have to be in place, and agreed by both parties, prior to any debt.

But this discussion really detracts from the original post - We in the USA have a country to be proud of, a country that gives one the right to " PURSUE HAPPINESS", no gurantee, just the chase, if you're good, lucky, blessed, cursed, whatever, it is your right to be so.

Yeah Karma, Take it from a slum lord_he's got the American Way sussed out.

I think you have karmic debts to pay and have missed the point Voix made so clearly: People do go broke and lose their homes because of unforeseen circumstances_cancer, or other illnesses. Does it make them a loser?

Why is America so frightened of National Health Care? It's not free_everyone, employer, person and state- pays their bits_but no one goes broke or loses their homes because they lost their job due to cancer, blindeness or whatever. Good health is in the interest of the nation, unless of course profit has become more important_than the citizen's and their health who make-up that nation.
Voix has made an honest testament to what I have experinced myself( pre-existing condition they called pregnancy) and is the un-doing of America_That is, Profit's before people. Universal health care should be in the national interest_to make the healthiest, most productive citizens possible. Instead Americans suffer because they have no "coverage" which is just ridiculous.
I'm not saying America isn't wonderful and great_but am saying the gov. cares little for it's "domestic resources" and denial of health care for everyone is an outward sign that says to me:_if you can't afford it TOUGH SHIT, YOU LOSE...and from my multi- cultured point of view I say it's wrong, immoral and very Un Christian-like.
and even insurers will not cover Gentically Modified creations??? That says it all.
Thanks.

Now Macy,

I capitalize in a capitalistic society, I recognize a need, provide a service with extreme competition, and succeed in my market.
THAT IS WHAT AMERICA IS ALL ABOUT !!!!!!

If you read my old post you will see that I have had my ups and downs, I just refused to give up, because the system this country
provides has given me the opportunity to fail and succeed.
All you have to do is TRY !!!

My recent post only cite my observations of my niche market and their lack of a need to try.

Oh yeah, slum lords need love too.

E.Macy, my post is not just about health care.  It's about the fact that people will bitch no matter how well off they have it in this country.  What will happen if we have socialized health care?  Taxes for every hard working person will go up.  So those who are barely making it on their own will then have a tougher time.  You think it will cover everything?  No!  Just like other countries, if you want the *good* service, you will still have to buy private insurance so that you can afford the specialists and better health care.  Socialized medicine is full of corruption and would cost everyone more money (except, of course, those who don't actually contribute to society).  I never said that anyone is a "loser" because of anything.  What I said was that life isn't fair so get over it.  I have paid out over $100,000 in medical bills in my adult life even *with* medical insurance.  I didn't go broke.  I also had to leave college because of medical issues.  Did I turn into a "loser"?  No, I re-enrolled when I could and kept at it.  I have also missed a lot of work because of medical reasons.  Did I go broke then?  No, I went back to work when I could.  That's how life works.  I also make sure that I live below my means in case something *bad* happens. But, no, not everyone is like me.  And, some people will not have as much money as others.  But, that's life.  It's not fair.  I wish I didn't have to pay $3,000 + a year for house, car, and other none health insurance, but I have to.  It's not fair, but that's life.

And, if you want to have the government control health care, shouldn't they have some say in how we treat ourselves?  Should they pay for any sort of treatment for obese people? (They are the ones who made themselves that way).  Or, what about people who smoke or drink?  Why should people who contribute to their own illness be covered?  Should the taxpayers have to pay for somebody who smoked for 15 years then got lung cancer?  Maybe if the government ran health care they should put stipulations in about that.  How would people react to that?  They'd bitch.  Because that's what we do when something isn't fair.  Instead of spending our energy on correcting our own problems, we look to somebody else to solve them for us and bitch when it doesn't happen.

That statement cracked me up.  What does "Christian" have to do with anything?  How is the government not providing health care immoral?  Immoral?  When was the government ever moral?  They are here to protect us from other nations taking us over.  They are here to make sure that our constitutional rights are upheld.  Past that point, they don't owe us anything.  We have just *decided* that they should take care of us.  Where has it ever been stated that it is our right as an American to be kept healthy, fed and housed?  Nowhere.  We have just decided that it is the governments responsibility to take care of us when life is no longer "fair".
