A silly place filled with caffeine induced ramblings of this person named KarmaGirl....or something.
Sounded good.....

So, last night I was in a mood to spend some money on frivolous things. I was planning on ordering a CD that I wanted, but I really only had heard a couple tunes that I liked from. Then, just before I pressed the "buy" button, I thought of BuyMusic.com.

Since the idea is good, I decided to check it out. So, I got on the site and started poking around. There is always the good, bad, and the stupid thing that makes you not buy:

Good:
They seem to have a lot of titles signed up
It seems like a straight forward process
You can listen to many of the songs "clips" before purchasing
It's cheap (most of them are $.99 each)

Bad:
If you don't know what you are looking for, it's hard to find things
Their classifications are insane- what the heck is "Pop Metal"? (Silly! It's those metal artist such as Bon Jovi, Poison and Whitesnake...)
They have really annoying ads

Stupid thing that made me not buy:
I get to the "buy" part of this. I live in Michigan with an ISP who's registered in California (it's a Satellite connection). Obviously, Neither Michigan nor California is still in the US. They informed me that I could not buy from them because I was connecting from a computer outside the US......nice.... Obviously they haven't figured this all out quite yet.

Bottom line: It seems like it will be a really good service, but it makes me wonder what else they will screw up on if they can't even tell where my ISP is. They should spend more money on development and less money on annoying "fat lady dancing and signing" commercials.

I'm waiting to see if they answer my email to them........

BuyMusic gets a 1/2 coffee cup rating (at least they answered most of my email)

joe the blow- you need to write an article on why people should use MusicMatch. I really know nothing about it. Maybe you can compare its features to BuyMusic.com and ITunes.

Very interesting thanks for the information.

I am hoping (undoubtably in vain) that congress will pass legislation putting a tax on blank CDs or computers to compensate the music companies, and then allow swapping to go on. The main reason I have is that no music company will offer the variety that you could find on Kazaa and may I add the freedom to do with the music what you want.

You should also see the reply that I got from them. It's on my blog http://karmagirl.joeuser.com
I don't think they have to worry about me buying from them, especially after what Mudflap said.

Flyin Hawaiin just had an interesting experience. He bought some music from BuyMusic.com and downloaded it to his machine. He wanted to burn the stuff, but didn't have a burner on his machine. He then tried copying the files to another machine to burn, but it wouldn't let him because he didn't have a license on the other machine or some nonsense. He then tried it on my machine and the same thing happened. Well, thinking he needed the license on the machine with the burner, he re-logged into BuyMusic.com and tried to re-download the files. He was treated to a nice little message saying that he didn't have anymore download privilages/licenses. Yuk.

Moral of the story. Don't use it. It sucks

My complaint about these pay-for-music sites was that they don't take the model that everybody has adopted, the file-sharing model, and used that, which would be something like Napster, but with a central catalog that makes it easy to buy and download music. However, it seems that MusicMatch might have actually done that. I agree with KarmaGirl. An article about it would be great!
