Part 2 of many

This article is just going to show a couple examples comparing the FinepixS2 to the Sony F707 that I have. Now, the Sony is no slouch when it comes to digital cameras. I have nothing bad to say about it, and I do recommend it for the typical person. However, I plan on using the Finepix for taking pictures of Weddings and Seniors as a little side job that I'm starting. (Hopefully, it will pay for my toys...) The following two examples were shot with no corrections, using the on board flash with the auto programming. I, however, do not recommend doing this with the Finepix, because, well, the results aren't as good as you can manually set it for. But, since I'm trying to compare apples to apples, that is how I shot these pictures.

That said, my fist comparison is going to be with color. One of my main gripes about the Sony is its color saturation. It over saturates to an annoying degree. As a point of reference, the table that these are taken on is oak. I think that we all know that oak is not orange. Another gripe I have about the Sony is the flash. It's like the camera shoots it at full flash and then adjusts the shutter and aperture accordingly. When that happens, all the highlights become overexposed. I think you can tell that the left is the Fuji and the right is the Sony.

The second example that I am going to show is of the detail. the Sony is a 5.1 megapixel camera. The Fuji is a 6.1 that will interpolate to 12.1 and will also save as a RAW file. However, for this example, I shot the Sony at the fine jpg at 5.1 megapixels, and shot the Fuji at fine jpg at 6.1 megapixels. I then magnified each to 200%. The Fuji (still on the left) definitely kept more clarity, especially on the highlights.

The Fuji Finepix S2 has so far proved to be a major upgrade from the Sony. i will continue to play with it and report back what I find.
