A silly place filled with caffeine induced ramblings of this person named KarmaGirl....or something.

I am seeing a bunch of hit and miss posts about issues that people are having.  However, it is impossible for the web programmers to find the reports in this fashion.  Though Cordelia can relay the messages, she can't actually fix the issues (as can none of us expect the web team).

So, please post your issues here.  *BUT*, when you do, make sure that you are giving every detail possible.  A "this site is acting odd" report will get us nowhere.  Post when, where, and how the problem occurred.  Also let us know what browser you are using and if you have already tried cleaning your cookies.  Reproducible issues are easiest to track (with info on how to reproduce them) so, please try to reproduce the issue prior to reporting it.

Please remember that the more info you provide, the more likely it can be fixed.

I know that there was a warning last time (which I never saw). When I came back from exile, I found it.

I assume that there was a warning about the site being down this time too.

Suggestion:

Whoever posts said warning should experiment a little with making the announcement a bit more eye-catching. Maybe putting a "we'll be closed from XX to XX" somewhere on a banner or something.

"Since this site is free and has no business justification, it's the first on the chopping block. We have to support customers first."

Just adding, once again, that some of us would be glad to pay for the service. No one understands where you are coming from more than me, but it does sometimes sound as if JUsers are downplayed because they aren't customers, when they are never given the opportunity to be. I doubt I am the only one that is a customer of Stardock and a member of JU.

Frankly, I don't see why the business model for JU is any different than that of Wincustomize. You allow membership there, and while it doesn't offset the cost it must be worth it enough to keep doing it. Why not give us the ability to be paying members here like we are there?

Whenever our servers/bandwidth gets maxed, we take down services that are less important. Since this site is free and has no business justification, it's the first on the chopping block. We have to support customers first.

Can you add my boss to that block?

It's *much* different.  WC supports our products, so the site is basically "paid" for by purchase of the products it provides content for.  The subscriptions to WC are far from enough to support the site, and that is why a lot of features are limited to subscribers/product purchasers.

JoeUser has no business model.  We have done the math many time- if you take a typical conversion rate from users to subscribers, taking in to account that nobody would pay much to blog, the site wouldn't even generate enough money to justify the work that it would take to implement a payment system.

And then there is this- what would you get if you had a paid subscription that you wouldn't be getting for free?  Either we would have to take away features for those who didn't pay, or code in new features for those who did.  Neither option is viable at this time.

Trust me, we'd *like* to make money off this site and justify its existence, but that's simply not going to happen at this time.

When I click on the "My Blog" (http://chiprj.joeuser.com/) link in the upper right corner of my blog, I get the page that says -

Hello, JoeUser is still currently experiencing some scheduled downtime in order to help facilitate the release of our new strategy game ¡°Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords¡±. We apologize for the inconvenience. In the meantime, feel free to visit www.galciv2.com to see what the fuss is all about, or www.wincustomize.com for all your desktop customization needs. However, we do have the forums online. You can visit the JoeUser's forums at https://forums.joeuser.com

When I click on http://chiprj.joeuser.com/index.asp, I get my blog.

Oddly, though, when I click on links to other blogs (for example - http://greywar.joeuser.com/ - no index.asp), I get the page no problem.

Additionally, I am unable to post on the forums. When I go to the forums, I appear to not be logged in. When I select the "Log In" button, I get the "Create a New Account" page instead. I'm guessing this may have to do with the changes going on and all. Just figured I'd post anyways, though.

Well now that JU seems to be up and running steadily I have noticed something baffling. On the main page the "Top Articles" has listed the same articles since the beginning of Febrary. Its a minor thing, but its definitely not updating.

Karma, I'm having trouble posting comments on any site I visit. I've been able to comment on about three so far but can't on the others I log onto. Is it just my computer acting up or is it JU? Thx for your help.

Jusr wondering what is happening when I click on 'Edit' and get the message:

Thanks.

Today it appears that new articles aren't showing up on the forums.

I'm having the exact opposite problem of an article posting to the forums, but not appearing on my blog site.

I haven't been able to edit my comments for at least a week. Lately the error page I receive simply says:

"An error has occurred while processing the page."

But the first few days of being unable to edit, the error pages I was presented with were loaded with html-looking coded mumbo-jumbo. I would be more specific, but I haven't received that error page in awhile.

But somehow I'm able to edit this comment. That's odd. Please help. I rely heavily on comment editing. I am loaded with flaws.

I posted an article today and it is showing on the list of recently posted articles but not showing in the forums. Is anyone else having this problem?

Can't post ANY replies to my own articles. I have had no problems posting to others' (even though the page times out every time), but cannot respond to comments on my own posts.
