Channel 955 entrapment
Published on February 26, 2004 By KarmaGirl In Personal Relationships

There is this local radio station- Channel 95.5 that has this thing called "The War of The Roses".  This is the basic of it:

A listener calls in and says that they think that their significant other is cheating on them.  The radio station calls up the person that is suspected of cheating.  They say that they are doing market research for flowersbloom.com (which does have a website) and that by answering a few questions that they will send a dozen roses to whomever the person wishes.

I usually don't listen to it, because it bugs me.  However, for some reason, I listened to it today, and this was basically what happened:

A female calls up and says that she suspects that the guy she met online is in a relationship.  They call the guy up, and he wants to send the flowers to somebody else.  He doesn't say his relationship with this somebody, so they keep asking him until he agrees to send the more romantic arrangement.  Then after he says all this, they let him know that he is live on the air and that they have this other woman on the phone.

Now, this one is a fairly harmless one.  *But* most of these involve married couples....some of whom probably end up getting divorced because of this.

If I was one of the people that they called, I would sue them for entrapment.  They are calling people, misrepresenting themselves, then leading them to do/say things that they normally wouldn't.  I'm actually amazed that nobody has sued them so far.

But, I have decided that I'm removing them from my programmed stations on my radio.  The only way that I can avoid listening to War of the Roses is by not listening to them.

I'm not saying that cheating on your significant other is OK, what I am saying is that this radio station should not be doing this.  The person might be guilty, but it's not right to lead them into a proof of guilt like that.

That's how I feel about those so-called reality shows. You know, the ones where people are pretending to be something that they are not, making a fool out of another person and then finally 'revealing' themselves at the end of the series... that's entertainment? I don't think so. It's a twisted world when we love to watch/listen to people hurting other people on purpose... but our history of entertainment has always held this element.

At least on the "reality" shows, they are aware that they will be taped and I am sure that they sign some sort of statement about what they are doing. (I can't stand those shows, either). What I find so wrong about this, though, is that the other person on the other side of the phone never gave permission and has no idea what is going on. It just irritates me every time I hear it. I don't find ruining people's lives or humiliating them in public "entertaining".

I don't see a thing wrong with it. They should be exposed.
Besides since theres no limit as to the number of times that straight folks can marry, they can just go right out and find someone else to cheat on. GCJ

GCJ...so you think entrapment is OK?  Don't you think this whole thing is an invasion of privacy?  Or do rights like that only exist if you are assumes innocent?

Entrapment - The inducement, by law enforcement officers or their agents, of another person to commit a crime for the purposes of bringing charges for the commission of that artificially-provoked crime. This technique, because it involves abetting the commission of a crime, which is itself a crime, is severely curtailed under the constitutional law of many states

notice line one which states "by law enforcement officers or their agents"

So it's not wrong unless you get caught? Please, use your brain, what if it was your husband? Would you choose ignorance to stay in a deceitful relationship? enough said

BeeLoh - Who are you talking to here? Forgive my confusion, but KarmaGirl specifically states:

Which would lead me to believe that she's not saying that cheating on your significant other is ok.

Frankly, while I think that if you are cheating you should be ashamed of yourself, I also think that exposing people in this circus way is not really as much about punishment for the cheaters as it is about ratings, which makes me ill. Tho' perhaps not as ill as many people's desire to listen to such a show.

Not necessarily. You ever see the show "Cheaters"? I didn't watch it until I heard on a news channel that they were being sued by a teacher who lost her job because she was caught on video by the Cheaters show with another man (she wasn't married but cheating on her boyfriend).

I think people who cheat are spineless, selfish scum but I think the shows that exploit peoples' relationships are even lower forms of scum.

Oh, btw, I love the movie "War of the Roses"!
